A limousine driver, who drove on the incorrect ramp after paying a toll on the Thruway in Newburgh and crashed into another automobile, killing a commuter in his vehicle, Tuesday plead guilty in Orange County Court to manslaughter in the second degree.
At the time of the crash, the driver, Hardeep Singh, 35, of Floral Park, Queens, had a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent, said District Attorney Frank Phillips.
Killed in the May 24 crash was George Cook, who was riding in the limo driven by Singh, said Phillips.
The crash occurred at the Exit 17 ramp on the Thruway in the Town of Newburgh. “Mr. Singh from side to side the toll booth and proceeded the wrong way attempting to go to New York City by way of the ramp for citizens getting off the Thruway, and thereby causing a crash.”
One more passenger in his vehicle and two others in the other vehicle were injured in the Town of Newburgh crash resulting in a plea to three counts of third-degree assault as well, said District Attorney Frank Phillips.
Phillips’ office will suggest 10 years in prison when Singh is sentenced next month. He is liberated on bail.
